I began playing with 3d modeling after reading an article in Wired magazine last year about advances in 3d printing technology. I have enjoyed learning about modeling itself, but I am also excited about using it in the math classes I teach. I have only printed a few models so far, but there are some more in the works. These are the models I have printed so far.
If you are interested in modeling, I have posted a number of resources about modeling with openSCAD.
Tetrahedral iPhone Stand
Whenever I have the chance during lunch time at work, I FaceTime with my 18-month-old son. Last year I scrounged around my desk looking for ways to prop up my phone; this year I will be FaceTiming in style.
Heart Dipping Dish
This is an olive oil dipping dish I made for Erin for Valentine’s Day. You fill the dish with olive oil, and then add just enough balsamic vinegar to fill in the heart.
Koch Snowflake Ornament
This is an ornament based on the Koch snowflake fractal. There is a story behind this ornament.
