An Introduction to 3d Modeling with openSCAD – Installing

Installation in General
Installation of openSCAD is straightforward in most cases. The program is available for Linux, Mac, and Windows from the openSCAD site. Scroll down to the section labeled “Download Releases”, and find the file appropriate for your operating system.

Installation on Linux Systems
If you are running a version of Ubuntu, you can install openSCAD through Synaptic. I have used this method several times, and have had no issues.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:chrysn/openscad
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install openscad

A package is available for openSUSE as well.

If you are running another Linux distro, you can download the source and install openSCAD manually.

Installation on OS X and Windows

Pre-compiled binaries are available for OS X and Windows. There is also an installer for Windows.
