PHSgeek – Installing Software

There are a number of software packages that we will be using on a regular basis.  This post summarizes which packages we want to install, and how to install each package.

Sublime Text 2

Sublime Text 2 is a text editor that is simple enough for beginners to use, but advanced enough that you can learn some efficient coding techniques.  Installation instructions are adapted from www.webupd8.org/2011/03/sublime-text-2-ubuntu-ppa.html

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/sublime-text-2
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sublime-text

Google Chrome browser

The default browser on ubuntu is firefox.  It’s nice to have chrome installed as well, for a number of reasons.

sudo apt-get install chromium-browser

Kdenlive

Kdenlive is a video editor for linux systems.  You can find out more at kdenlive.org.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kdenlive
