There will always be a way for people to update their ubuntu systems through a graphical interface, but if you are aiming to be a programmer it is better to learn how to run updates through a terminal. There are a number of reasons you might want to know how to update your system through a terminal:
- If your system won’t boot into a graphical interface, you can run updates to see if the problem is resolved;
- You can start to script your system maintenance tasks;
- When you need to maintain
- a remote server, which you will do if you spend any time programming these days, you will need to run updates through a terminal.
You can update your ubuntu system with two commands:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Give it a try. You probably won’t go back to using a graphical interface for updates.
